Mask Girl On Netflix : The Latest K-Drama Grabbing People's Attention

K-drama, Mask Girl Poster

Aware of the fact that judging people based on their looks always leads to societal disruption, still we keep doing it.

The latest released Netflix K-drams showcases the extreme disruption in a protagonist’s life created due to constant bullying and ignorance.

A 7-year-old girl, Kim-Mo-Mi dreams of being an actor as she likes to get people’s attention.

However, the same people have some standards defined for a person to be a star or stage performer.

Growing up, she starts getting people’s judgement about her looks, which is inappropriate for becoming an actor.

Adding to her misery, Mo-Mi’s mother would scold her for dressing up, and make-up, as these interests don’t match with her face.

Constant bullying from every corner made her leave home and live alone in a rented house.

She joins a corporate firm and is part of the rat race.

However, Mo-Mi’s inner fire to be a star is still there.

She wears a mask, and a blonde hair wig, and entertains the audience of an adult site through her dance at night.

She likes this attention and does it every night after finishing up her corporate day job.

Her dance skills were amazing, she was getting famous as a ‘Mask girl’ in the online world.

Her routine continued until one day when she was heartbroken and did something unthinkable in the live stream. She came out naked during the livestream.

From that day on, she begins to experience nightmares.

The K-drama, Mask Girl targets several societal evils giving center stage to racism.

A young girl who was growing up dreaming a film star ends up going to jail for a lifetime, charged with murder, and has to part ways with her own daughter, eventually leading to a miserable death.

The Mask Girl show entertained the audience through their 7 episodes with around 1 hour of running time each.

Every episode unfolds a new chapter having a new character, but all are linked to Kim-Mo-Mi, which feels like the disconnected parts of a puzzle.

Mask girl’s life from a dreamer to a criminal feels unfair and pitiful.

The series has an engaging start, but gradually it loses its grip. The entire jail sequence feels irrelevant.

The first four episodes are the introductions of 4 main characters of the show, including Mo-Mi, her colleague Ju-Oh-Naam (victim of Bullying), Oh-Naam’s mother Kim-Kyung-Ja, and Mo-Mi’s friend.

All these episodes were equally exciting and built curiosity and engagement.

The last three episodes feel quite lengthy and boring, as the story felt a bit slow and unnecessarily dragged.

Kim-Mo-Mi’s daughter Mi-Mo is introduced after her surrender.

She lives with her grandmother and often is a target of mockery for being the mask girl’s daughter.

She plays a crucial role in the series and perhaps she’ll play the lead in season 2, if ever made.

Mask Girl highlights the repercussions of bullying and how horribly it may impact someone’s mental health, and life overall.

This societal discrimination must end.

The K-drams show will get 2.5 stars out of 5.
