3 Learning Behaviour To Understand Educational Psychology

This is the year 2022!

It’s the time when learning resources are available in abundance. Books, digital libraries, audiobooks, video tutorials, virtual reality devices, etc. along with a plethora of content on any topic are available.

Today’s learner understands the power of the search engine, Google or Bing. When they feel stuck in one place, they know the internet would have the answer.

Some even predict that the future might have robots as teachers to train the students.

However, will the robots i.e., an AI machine will understand the psychology of a student?

Will a robot able to connect emotionally?

No. Right?

Here comes the necessity of education psychology - A science to understand the learning behaviour of a student.

Not every student can grasp the concept in the same way in a class of 10-15 students.

Here the teacher requires to use the concept of inclusive education - Where every student irrespective of their learning disability gets benefitted equally.

Let’s understand the different behavioural studies required to understand the educational psychology of a student.

Also, these studies help the teacher prepare a learning flow that facilitates the learning effectively.

So, let’s get started:

1. Cognitive Behaviour:

Grasping a concept by a student reflects his or her cognitive behaviour. The behaviour can be analysed as per the student’s response in the class.

For Example: Some students show excellent work in Maths, while some feel a lack of confidence and couldn’t perform well.

In this particular context, a trained teacher should understand the student’s cognitive thinking. It’s good to talk to the student, how do they feel about Maths? What makes them stuck? Is there any topic in Maths they enjoy solving questions from?

Asking these questions will help the teacher prepare a learning strategy for the student. In the beginning, it would require extra time and effort. As soon as the student builds up confidence, teaching will become much easier.

2. Emotional Behaviour:

Unfortunately, several children deal with unpleasant situations in their surroundings that impacted their emotional health severely.

The negative emotions affect the child’s mental health and overall affect their social and emotional behaviour.

As they say, ‘A happy child should be the first priority. It gets difficult for such children to concentrate. Over time, if the issue remains unaddressed, then the student’s situation becomes worse.

When a child feels emotionally stable, things in the surroundings feel good too. So, a child’s emotional behaviour is important when it comes to educating them.

3. Social Behaviour:

A child’s home is the second most important place (After school) to get educated. A child understands behavioural and social things from parents, relatives, elders, and people in hir or her surrounding.

Thing’s happening in a child’s surroundings affect their social behaviour.

For Example: If a child listens to people talking loudly to each other and using negative words. There is a possibility that such an atmosphere will affect a child negatively, and he or she may give more rude answers or behave inappropriately toward their teachers/parents/elders.

On the opposite, if the surrounding has a positive atmosphere, and people are talking politely, then it’ll also reflect in a child’s attitude.

Conclusion:

Not all children are equal!

Some like to learn through technology, whereas some through books.

Some likes Maths, and some Arts.

Some behaved appropriately in class, whereas some doesn’t.

Some want to play indoor games, whereas some go outdoors.

Some listen to the teachers, whereas some don’t.

Some complete their homework on time, whereas some hardly do it.

It’s a teacher’s responsibility to understand the learning behaviour of every student and dedicate their time accordingly to teach them.

Educational psychology is a great concept to use in the teaching process and provides its benefits to the students in their learning process for the long term.

Happy teaching!
